we love our volunteers!
More than 1,100 volunteers assist in various Alachua Habitat for Humanity activities each year. Our volunteers build houses, assist in our administrative offices, provide lunch for volunteers at build sites, work at our ReStore, help at events, and so much, much more for our community. We host individuals and groups of volunteers through a variety of ongoing opportunities.
Volunteers are the heart of our organization. From board members, to ReStore and administrative office volunteers, to those directly involved in construction, volunteers make our work possible.
group volunteers:
Open to groups of up to 15 volunteers. No experience is needed, and lunch and water is provided on the site.

why we charge for weekday team builds
Building and repairing homes requires large investments for materials and labor. Individual and group contributions are our most important source of funding, and 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes towards building homes that are sold to local families in need of affordable housing through zero interest or zero-equivalent interest mortgages.

where is the build located?
All registered volunteers will receive the site address the week of their scheduled build. All of our current sites are located within Gainesville within a 20-minute drive of the University of Florida.

Yes, volunteers must stay from 8:30am to 2:30pm for safety reasons.

Volunteers should wear clothing that they don't mind getting dirty and should wear shoes that enclose the toe/heel and that have a sole similar to that of tennis shoes/hiking boots.

what happens if there's inclement weather on the day of my build?
We monitor the weather leading up to all of our volunteer events. The build may be cancelled if weather poses a potential safety risk or if it will impede construction progress on the site. Occasionally, this means a cancellation on the morning of the event. If it is scheduled to rain, some sites may still be able to host volunteers if the work for the day is inside the house, depending on its state in the construction process. Volunteers will be notified via email if the build is cancelled.
