Savannah says she found Alachua Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership Program by searching on line for home assistance programs. The funny thing
is, she added, was after she applied she found out she knew several people who were already part of the Habitat family.
Savannah has been living with her mother and sister in an older home, which experiences water intrusion with every hard rain. The floors never dry out
completely during the high humidity months with their air conditioner only working intermittently.
Savannah serves her community by working for the Alachua Police Department as a dispatcher. It’s rewarding work, but can be difficult at times depending on
the call. When asked why she wants a Habitat house Savannah says it is because she loves children. Savannah dreams of becoming a foster mom and
caring for children that otherwise might not have a home. She often babysits her friends' children, and has even has bought a car seat to keep in her own car
for them. Having an affordable mortgage and a safe home with Habitat, will be a big step in preparing for her dream. She adds “I feel like I’m in a position to
help other people and there are so many children that need help.”
