Meet Rakesha and her son Moses! Rakesha and her son have been living in public assistance apartments since 2016. Rakesha expressed that her current living situation is not an ideal one for her or Moses. Moses is 8 years old and has Autism and ADHD. Rakesha expressed that her current environmental conditions were unsafe, and she was afraid to let him out to play by himself. She claims, “Moses is adventurous and has no fear.” She is afraid that something might happen to Moses if she is not watching him with a close eye or with him.
Rakesha first heard about Habitat for Humanity in 2018, when she heard Habitat was doing a home ownership orientation. She put her name on the application list and was the very last name. She explained, “I was afraid I wasn’t going to get in... then I got a call from Habitat a few days later asking if I could come in for an interview. I was overjoyed.” Throughout her time with Habitat, she has learned to be more financially responsible and has boosted her credit. Rakesha is very excited to become a homeowner because it means Moses will have a safe place to play and grow up in. Rakesha would like to say thank you to Habitat and that she is forever grateful and appreciative for what they have done for her.
Rakesha's home is also Women Build's 14th house!
