Masheria is 28 and cares for four children between the ages of 6 and 13 years, three girls and one boy. Two are her biological children and the other two are children of some of her family members. Masheria lost her dad at age 15 and her mom at age 17. She had her first child at 15 and has been on her own since age 17. Masheria recently became CNA certified and it is her new career.
Masheria first learned about Habitat for Humanity while a participant in Project YouthBuild, when she worked on one of the houses built by Alachua Habitat in partnership with Santa Fe College’s construction school. Later, when her sister Jasmine became the homeowner of Women Build’s twelfth house, Masheria became determined to become a homeowner also. She attended an Alachua Habitat Homeowner’s Orientation and was afraid that with so many others there — well over 150! — she didn’t have a chance. However, Masheria quickly completed and submitted her paperwork and she soon was accepted to the program.
Masheria has lived in section 8 housing and is so ready to own a home of her own. She is super excited to work on building her own house and providing a stable home for herself and the four children in her care.
Masheria’s home is Alachua Women Build’s thirteenth house. For more information on Alachua Women Build or to sign up to volunteer, contact Facebook.. To stay up-do-date with all of Alachua Women Build's activities, follow us on
