Kennetha Brown is a young, outgoing woman. She currently works at the Lubavitch Chabad Jewish Students Center, where she performs a variety of managerial roles such as planning trips and supervising the children. She also pitches in on other tasks like cooking and cleaning.
Kennetha currently rents a home living with her mom Cheryl, who works for Alachua County Public Schools. In their free time, the two of them love watching movies, going out to eat at their favorite restaurant, and spending time with their family members. One of their favorite holiday traditions is spending Thanksgiving evenings with the whole family – it’s always a night full of good food and good times!
Their current housing is challenging as there are many stairs to climb and significant mold. This is especially worrisome as Cheryl is a two-time cancer survivor, and these living conditions inhibit her mother’s recovery and overall health. Additionally, power bills are high, because the home is not energy-efficient.
Kennetha was very hopeful when she first heard about Habitat for Humanity through a Facebook ad, and was shocked when Habitat contacted her less than a month after she began her application. Kennetha commented that she was surprised by how quick and comfortable the process has been. She hopes to host her own Thanksgiving dinner one day upon moving into her new Habitat home. Both Cheryl and Kennetha are also excited to start decorating and adjusting to their new home and anticipates hosting many barbeque nights and family get-togethers.
Most of all, Kennetha is ecstatic and eager to embrace the comfort and stability of having a place to call her own.
