At the end of May, Lasha received the keys to her family's new home, marking the completion of our 165th home built by Alachua Habitat and the first home supported by Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area's My Neighborhood Program. In August, the Gainesville City Commission approved the My Neighborhood Program as a step forward in strengthening neighborhoods through long-term homeownership.
"God is good," Lasha said at her home dedication, surrounded by her family, friends, fellow Habitat volunteers, and community members. The representatives from Santa Fe College; Builders Association of North Central Florida; Regions Bank; U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Florida Housing Coalition; and the City of Gainesville joined us at the event to celebrate this major accomplishment. Without the strength of our community's collaboration, this advancement for affordable housing wouldn't have been possible.
“You’re the first but not the last,” SF College President Broadie said about Walker becoming a recipient of the My Neighborhood Program forgivable loan. "“Never forget that you’re an example for this entire community and individuals will seek to model how you achieved this."
