Each faith's call to care about the poor challenges followers to act on their faith.
Habitat for Humanity has, at its heart, the spirit of cooperation. Those who work or volunteer for Habitat approach their responsibilities with a desire to be a part of a greater body of work. Staff and volunteers come to the mission of Habitat for Humanity with a passion to serve families in need. The understanding that housing is an integral part of everyone's life compels many to help find a solution to the need for a safe, decent place to live and grow into all that God intended.
Some volunteers express as much satisfaction from their volunteer experience as the families who they support. Others have become conscious of themselves through the solidarity and social justice of the Habitat experience.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization. All who desire to be a part of this work are welcome, regardless of religious preference or background. We build with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds. You can learn more about the theology of Habitat for Humanity on the Habitat International Website.
Alachua Habitat treasures its partnerships with congregations. The local faith community supports our mission through gifts of prayer, funds, and labor. There are many ways your faith community can get involved. Throughout the year congregations organize dinners, bowl-a-thons, car washes, golf tournaments, youth group activities, and other events to fund housing projects.
