Alachua Habitat for Humanity exists only because of the untiring efforts of our volunteers! For all of our twenty years of existence volunteers have been the flesh and bones and the spirit of Alachua Habitat. Did you know that Alachua County has one of the highest poverty levels in the State of Florida, as well as in the U.S.? To meet an ever growing need for affordable housing in Alachua County we need volunteers like you to help in all parts of Alachua Habitat!

2. The first step to getting involved is the application and orientation process. Please note: Even if you have completed an application and read the safety manual, you are still required to attend an orientation. Orientations are not designed to delay your volunteer service, but to prepare you for your volunteer experience with us. The orientation entails a brief history of HFH International and Alachua Habitat for Humanity's history, mission, current projects, goals, and special needs. An appropriate video is shown for your volunteer interest, and a review of the list of volunteer positions and committees available through AHFH is given.

Orientations are currently held Wednesday and Friday afternoons between the hours of 1 and 4pm. It is necessary for you to schedule an orientation in advance. Please email Shanetta Joiner at SJoiner@AlachuaHabitat.org to set up an orientation appointment, or caller her at (352) 378-4663 between Tuesday and Friday, 9AM to 5PM.

Closing Comments:

We get so many requests for construction volunteers that we don't always have room for everyone. If you are willing to help out by any means, please consider one or more of the other volunteer options listed above. Often our biggest need is in other areas, and the experience can be just as rewarding - sometimes even more fun!

We are growing fast and making a lot of changes and adjustments in this Habitat affiliate. Fresh ideas and even constructive criticism will be an asset to us.
